1. Water environmental capacity calculation

   Add environmental capacity calculation in ICM, user can easily find how much pollution the river can receive at each time step and each river’s total environment capacity during the whole simulatiton.
   Water Environmental Capacity Calculation
   Background
   Water environmental capacity is an essential component of water environmental assessment and must be monitored and managed for economic, engineering, and human health reasons. Many efforts have been made to study methods for the calculation of water environmental capacity. This content reviews available literature on water environmental capacity. The evolutionary history and application scenarios of major water quality models, and water environmental capacity calculation formulas are summarized.

   Water environmental capacity calculation formulas
   General Equations Up to Standard
   The basic equation of water environmental capacity can be represented as follows :
   Wij= Q·(Cs-Co)+K·Cs·V
   Wij is the water environmental capacity of minimum computing unit in both time and space,
   Q is the flow discharge,
   Cs is the water quality standard,
   C0 is the natural background concentration of the pollutants in the water,
   K is the degradation coefficient of the pollutants.

   The equation of water environmental capacity is applied to river network region as follows:
   W=∑(j=1)^n▒∑(i=1)^m▒a(ij ) × Wij
   
   Wij is the water environmental capacity of minimum computing unit, especially in calculating the minimum space unit of river reach (that is , the space between two breaks); the default minimum time unit is day.
   aij is non-uniformity coefficient, aij∈(0,1] ; If wider the river reach is , aij will be smaller.

   Equations of Reciprocating Flow Area
   According to the boundary events of hydrology, we can calculate the minimum time and space unit value of water environmental capacity using mathematical model of river network towards the research area. Summarizing the values of each control unit according to the following formulas.
   Using the two direction flow(double-flow model) formulas to calculate as below:
   W=A/(A+B)W+ + A/(A+B)W-
   A: Positive flow calculating relative days
   B:Negative flow calculating relative days
   W+ : Positive flow value of water environmental capacity
   W- : Negative flow value of water environmental capacity

   Positive flow formula:
   W+ = Q01 (CS-C01 )+K1 V1 Cs
   Negative flow formula:
   W- = Q02 (CS-C02 )+K1 V1 Cs

   In order to ensure the water environmental capacity calculation result that is consistent with the actual uneven phenomenon, we can use the non-uniformity coefficient of correction in the river network area during the process of the water environmental capacity calculation, which will be multiplied by the mixing of the water environmental capacity of water. It is concluded that water can meet certain control of water environment capacity under the condition of non-uniform coefficient values between 0 and 1. The wider the river reach , the more difficult it is for pollutants to be discharged into the water body to achieve uniform mixing, and the smaller the non-uniformity coefficient.
   The relationship between the width of river reach and aij ( non-uniformity coefficient ) as follows:

2. "jet flow" and agitation (inflow with a certain speed)

   In China, efforts are being made to improve black and smelly water bodies. One of the measures is to increase water fluidity to improve water quality through natural purification of water bodies. So there are two measures to increase the fluidity of water body: "jet flow" and agitation. We need to add these two measures to ICM. In one-dimensional river or two-dimensional water body, the simulation of "jet" device is added to realize the setting of an inflow into the model at a certain speed. In a two-dimensional water body, the addition of local agitation facilities can realize the change of local flow regime. It can also reflect the hydrodynamic and water quality changes of different distance from the facilities.

3. Calculatiton speed with diffusion needs to improve.

   Diffusion will seriously slow down the model culculation. But generally the water quality models have to run for several years. With current simulation speed that would be unlikely to do a water quality simulation with diffusion.

5. Export Flood Profile from ICM to AutoCAD Civil 3D Profile file

   While exporting to AutoCAD DWG file format is ok - we used AutoCAD Civil 3D for drawing profiles. Can you just create a Profile file? or use LandXML to represent this information.

   Use profile files to record layout data for points of vertical intersection (PVIs) in a profile.

   A profile file is a simple text file in ASCII format. The file contains a series of stations along an alignment, the elevation of each station, and optionally, the length of curve at the station. Each line can include up to three information elements, separated by spaces:

   Station. An element required for each line. Plus characters (+) cannot be used.
   Elevation. A required element.
   Curve length. An optional element. However it cannot be used on the first or last line of the file. All vertical curves must be parabolic.
   Sample file lines:

   0 100.23
   50 104.2
   100 109.0 40.0
   150 102.63
   200 98.12 35.0
   250 102.45
   300 105.8
   In this example, only the third and fifth PVIs include curves (lengths of 40.0 and 35.0). Use these other format requirements for each profile file:

   The first and last lines must not contain curve information.
   The first line must provide the station and elevation for the first station.
   Stations must be in ascending order.
   No leading blank lines or headers.
   No blank lines; a blank line is read as the end of the file.
   No blank spaces at the beginning of any line.
   The last item must be the elevation for the last station.

6. Get time-series values from an existing (rainfall/inflow/level) event in ICM Exchange

   In ICM, we can open a rainfall event as graph. However, since we cannot query the time-series data from existing events in ICM Exchange, it's also impossible for us to do any visualization for these events.

7. Implicit SQL link between River reaches and associated storage area

   It should be possible to write a validation query to check if the lowest vertex of a River reach bank line does not lie below the ground level of the storage area it overflows to. With an implicit link between the river reach and the left and right storage areas it overflows to, the query would be easy:

   SELECT WHERE min(leftbank.Z) < leftnode.groundlevel;
   SELECT WHERE min(rightbank.Z) < rightnode.groundlevel;

8. Enable TIN Reference in Scenarios (Enable/Disable)

   All other layers in XPSTORM/XPSWMM are able to be deactivated for different scenarios.

   If you could allow for the Topography tins to be activated and deactivated (like Fill Areas, Elevation Shapes etc), this will allow for multiple scenarios (i.e. pre- and post-development) and minimise the complexities of trying to model two identical scenarios on two seperate models.

    "We are exploring possibilities of doing some post-processing within Infoworks. 16. New polygon to represent "buildings" geometry and hydrology

    This polygon would allow the user to set the roughness, porosity and flood threshold level all within a single polygon object - negating the need for many overlapping ones. Furthermore, the user is able to set the runoff characteristics for the building. These will be generated as per subcatchment with a single runoff surface and routed to the specified location. Additionally, the user has the ability to set a capacity limit, any flow above this will be capped from entering the 1D network. Instead the flow will be passed out on to the elements surrounding the building. Much as the building boundary now acts as a 2D line source for any flow in exceedance of the capacity limit.

    Models should now far more accurately represent localised flooding on the 2D and route appropriate limited flow into the 1D network.
